In 1977, distribution rights moved from Toshiba to King. King Records released a number of great pressings until 1983. 1977, “Immortal Masterpiece Selection” Series, Limited Edition, by King Records This series was released to celebrate that King acquired the contract to distribute Blue Note materials in Japan. - A Chronological List of Blue Note Japan LP Releases
Since 1968, so many Japanese pressings of Blue Note titles had been released in Japan by Toshiba Musical Industries, King Records and Toshiba EMI. Aside from the U.S., Japan may have been the luckiest country in the world, for we Japanese could enjoy so many Blue Note albums in Japan’s own pressings. In general, Japanese pressings are sought after for high fidelity pressings – imagine the second-best sound quality (next to U.S. original pressings) meet super-clean quiet vinyl pressing technology. Furthermore, we even could enjoy unreleased materials covered with nice jacket artworks – luckily we Japanese could enjoy and listen to them first among the world in the 1970s and […]...
- Blue Note Japan LP Releases: 1989- (Toshiba EMI, EMI Music Japan, Universal Music Japan)
Nov. 8, 1989 “Blue Note LP Last Reissue Part 1”, Limited Edition, by Toshiba EMI The time was 1989. We all thought we couldn’t buy brand-new analogue LP when it was time for the CD. However, many Japan record labels began releasing various LPs, saying “This Is The Last Time You Can Get in LP format!”, “It’s The Last LP Reissue This Time!”. Anyway, we were happy to buy such “last reissue” series. Basically all are limited edition by subscription only. Please note that BN-4027(S) and BN-4045(S) (both Freddie Redd titles) were NOT released in this Nov. 8, 1989 issue. On the paper insert, there is a mention that the […]...
- Blue Note Japan LP Releases: 1968-1977 (Toshiba Musical Industries – Toshiba EMI)
Toshiba Musical Industries (would be renamed to Toshiba EMI sometime in early 1970s) released a number of Blue Note LPs in the late 1960s. However, they were not Japan pressings: but Toshiba imported U.S. pressings and simply pasted Japanese stickers over the seals. Sometimes they added OBI and paper insert to the imported U.S. pressings. 1968, Japan’s first own pressings, by Toshiba Musical Industries The 1968 is the first year when Toshiba Musical Industries finally released their own pressings. Surprisingly it was NOT an LP issue but 45rpm single release (except NP-9020C, a 3LP box set). I heard that this series didn’t sell well, so these titles might be really […]...
