MG C-118: Billie Holiday Sings

[Front Cover] Label Type : black/gold Mercury type A
Matrix Number : SIDE-A C 118 A
SIDE-B C 118 B

Comments

The label is printed in gold on black-back. But unlike other black/gold Mercury, the label paper is NOT glossy type. I have another copy of MG C-118, which comes with (more common) black/silver Mercury trumpeter labels (please note that even the song orders are different each other!). Probably there are several label variations for this release.

Inside The Groove

The Lady Day's return to wax after a long absence.

Personal Impression (and brief notes)

This LP captures the first studio session for Billie Holiday in the 1950s. Supervised by Norman Granz, backing musicians are all famous JATP guys. Actually Lady Day herself once toured as a member of JATP in the 1940s. Anyway this album holds one of the best singing in her last decade. And of course, we must thank Mister David Stone Martin for this great drawing on the front sleeve!

An awesome record with no doubts.

Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)

10 out of 10
