MG C-508: Jazz At The Philharmonic - How High The Moon

[Front Cover] Label Type : black/gold Mercury type A trumpeter
Matrix Number : SIDE-A MGC508A
SIDE-B MGC508B

Comments

heavy-weight thick vinyl.

Although the cover says this is MG C-608, the matrix number and the label says this is MG C-508. It seems that this LP originally was released as MG C-508, but soon renumbered as MG C-608.

Inside The Groove

One of the JATP 12-inch release in Mercury era, featuring re-recorded version of How High The Moon and three others.

Personal Impression (and brief notes)

This 12-inch release, maybe released just before Mercury ceased to release JATP stuffs, features two JATP sessions.

Side-A features such as Buck Clayton, Willie Smith, Coleman Hawkins. A typical blowing jam session. Very nice.

Side-B features Howard McGhee as well as Charlie Parker and Lester Young. In this recording, The Pres plays rather great and smoothy, compared with his later recordings.

Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)

8 out of 10
