with original Mercury inner sleeve.

Inside The Groove

Max Roach Quintet's last album left on Mercury label. This was recorded in Paris, France.

Personal Impression (and brief notes)

This album, recorded in Paris, France, March 1960, was their last session for Mercury label. The performances of the Turrentine brothers (Stanley and Tommy), unlike their preceding albums, is excellent, which prove the musical relationship among every member had been getting very tight.

Side-A contains a suite written by Max Roach himself - it's a musical expression of their Paris impressions. Side-B features very boppish tracks, all of which sounds so nice.

Probably one of the best recorded performances by the “Turrentine Brothers era” of the Max Roach Quintet.

Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)

8 out of 10
