Mercury EP 3000 Series (7-inch 45rpm)
After Columbia's 10-inch/12-inch LP release in 1948 as a follower of 78rpm, 7-inch 45rpm EP was firstly introduced by RCA Victor in 1949. After a decade, LP was treated mainly for “albums” and EP for “singles”, but in its introduction EP was also treated and released as a variation of “albums”. Mercury also released a number of 45rpm EP albums. All came with hard cardboard-type sleeve (like LPs), and with our later eyes they looks like Japanese papersleeve CDs :) Yes EP album's jacket has unique and characteristic atmosphere. The EP holds one or two tunes on each side, and two or three EPs were released in conjunction with one (10 or 12-inch) LP release. Among other things, the most attractive point is the design of jacket sleeves: some of them have EP-only photos and drawings. The List (Mercury EP 3000 Series)Titles with bold numbers (NON-grayed lines) indicates I own the copy. You can see detailed information and scanned images by clicking catalogue no. or cover picture. If you happen to know the titles/artists of the albums unlisted here, or if you found any incorrect information, please let me know. Thank you.
