Inside The Groove

The great vocalist Jon Hendricks' early solo performance live in person.

Personal Impression (and brief notes)

After the breakup of the famous group Lambert, Hendricks & Ross (in 1962: then thru 1964 they sang as Lambert, Hendricks & Gavan), he started to record his solo albums. This Smash LP (release date was maybe in 1964-1965) features one of the greatest live-in-person session in his early era. The tunes appeared on this album vary from old touching ballards, hit tunes s of the 1960s to awesome up-tempo scat singings.

A very impressive and excellent album indeed.

Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)

10 out of 10

Personnel

Personnel/recorded date/master numbers confirmed with the Ruppli's discography.
(“The Mercury Labels - A Discography” by Ruppli and Novitsky, Greenwood Press, 1993)

“Recorded in 1963” on the Ruppli's discography, while according to the liner-notes (by Leonard Feather) the year 1964 may sound more appropriate for the recorded date.

IF ANYONE HAS MORE PRECISE INFORMATION, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

Noel Jewkes (ts), Flip Hunes (p), Fred Marshall (b), Jerry Granelli (ds).
