Comments

Gatefold cover.

with original Mercury inner sleeve.

As the label print suggests, this copy is not the very first pressing - it was definitely made at one of the Columbia plants (probably in 1961 or 1962?). Therefore, sound quality is not the best we can expect.

Inside The Groove

The very first title in the Mercury Perfect Presence Series, featuring Mercury's producer David Carroll's percussive sounds and Rhumba / Cha-Cha arrangements.

Personal Impression (and brief notes)

David Carroll was one of the important persons of Mercury in the 1950s-1960s era. He was an A&R at Popular division, as well as a producer and an arranger who worked with so many Mercury albums in that period.

Most of his famous works are banquets of percussive instruments in catchy arrangements, including “Percussion In Hi-Fi” (MG-20166 / SR-60003), “Re-Percussion” (MG-20389 / SR-60029) and a hit album “Let's Dance” (MG-20281 / SR-60001). Unlike these albums, this “Latin Percussion” album, full of Rhumba and Cha-Cha adaptations to popular tunes, is more conservative and less enjoyable in my humble opinion.

It's just one of those “Easy-Listening” albums...

Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)

5 out of 10
