Inside The Groove

One of the famous trilogy of “10 fronts and 2 backs” by Pete Rugolo.

Personal Impression (and brief notes)

This is the third and the last album of his famous trilogy - the first one is PPS-2001 / PPS-6001 (10 Saxophones And 2 Basses), and the second one is PPS-2016 / PPS-6016 (10 Trumpets And 2 Guitars). As always, Pete Rugolo picked up talented West-Coast studio musicians on the session. Bold saxophone section presents marvellous harmonies, but at the same time this third album falls into so-called “mannerism” - actually it has less thrills and surprises than other two albums. Still, it's an enjoyable album.

Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)

7 out of 10
