MG-25018: Earl Hines And His All-Stars

[Front Cover] Label Type : black/gold Mercury type A
Matrix Number : SIDE-A MG 25018A    2
SIDE-B MG 25018B    2

Comments

Although the sleeve is thick cardboard type, it may be 1st issue (the latest album listed on the back side of the cover is MG-25018 itself). Both jacket and disc are in rather fine condition.

I have seen (on photo) slightly different jacket design: letters are printed in black on white back, while this copy has white letters on black back.

Inside The Groove

One of the greatest mainstream sessions from original Keynote recordings.

Personal Impression (and brief notes)

Earl Hines, although rarely willing to record as a sideman, joined these recordings, one for Cozy Cole All-Stars, and one more for Charlie Shavers Quintet. As Mr. Dan Morgenstern wrote in the great liner-notes for The Complete Keynote Collection Box, these sessions would certainly have to be among the canditates for the “ultimate Keynote date”.

Such big names as Hines, Hawkins and Jo Jones digs so awesome. It's really awesome playing. Especially Earl Hines' piano are superb throughout. And of course we must be moved by Joe Thomas' marvelous trumplet.

We must thank to Mercury Record Corporation of that time that they left such great compilation LP. Really great album.

Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)

10 out of 10
