MG-25071: Trombone Time / Various Artists

[Front Cover] Label Type : blue EmArcy type A
Matrix Number : SIDE-A MG25071A
SIDE-B MG25071B

Comments

Early pressing with thin paper-type sleeve.

A-2 is indicated (both on the label and on the back cover) as “Too Marvelous For Words”, but the actual content is “You Brought A New Kind Of Love To Me”, from the same session.

Later reissued as EmArcy MG-26019, with the A-2 track replaced.

Inside The Groove

A nice compilation of six tunes by great Trombone-featured sessions by original Keynote recordings.

Personal Impression (and brief notes)

This 10-inch album consists of two Keynote sessions.

Side-A features legendary Jack Teagarden's trombone (as well as his voice), Coleman Hawkins' great tenor sound, and too marvelous Joe Thomas' trumpet play. All of them play too good, but among them Joe Thomas' melodious and brilliant trumpet leads the rest of them.

On the other hand, Side-B is from Benny Morton's trombone choir. Basic rhythm section plus as much as four trombone ensemble was arranged by Billy Moore.

Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)

Side-A: 10 out of 10

Side-B: 7 out of 10
