Inside The Groove

Typical West-Coast Jazz ensemble featuring Harry Babasin as a leader.

Personal Impression (and brief notes)

Harry Babasin and the Jazz Pickers left two LPs on EmArcy (later he recorded another LP on Mode label). All of them features West-Coast style ensemble in fully relaxed mood. Fortunately, they are not mere arrangements - we can still enjoy their improvisations within the modest arrangements. Especially, Buddy Collette's flute and Harry Babasin's cello sounds nice. On the other hand, the whole ensemble sounds like Jazz version of Chamber Music, which sometimes lacks thrilling moments.

Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)

6 out of 10
