Inside The Groove
The only leader album by L.C. Cooke (Sam Cooke's younger brother), who was also famous that he was creditted as a composers with Sam Cooke.
Personal Impression (and brief notes)
This is L.C. Cooke's only leader album. He started his singing career back in 1930s with his brother Sam and sisters, then after Sam was recruited into the Soul Stirrers, he spend underrated years as a members of the Magnificients, and as a solo singer.
His most unfortunate talent was that his voice resembles his brother's voice. For example on this album, L.C sings eleven tracks (which are all famous songs by Sam Cooke) with Al Smith's band, but most people may realize that this LP sounds as if Sam Cooke himself singing his own songs when his physical condition is so bad (or even with runny nose & drunk)...
Anyway, this LP may be very important and interesting in various aspects. If L.C. recorded another LP or two with different styles from Sam Cooke, he would have achieved a fair amount of applause, but he did not.
Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)
6 out of 10
