MG C-500: The Gene Krupa Trio At Jazz At The Philharmonic

[Front Cover] Label Type : black/gold Mercury type A trumpeter
Matrix Number : SIDE-A MG C500A
SIDE-B MG C500B    C

Comments

heavy-weight thick vinyl.

This LP, numbered MG C-500, is a 12-inch LP release, although other MG C-500 series are all 10-inch releases. It seems that MG C-500 was soon renumbered as MG C-600.

Inside The Groove

One of the JATP 12-inch release in Mercury era, featuring nice modern swing jam session by the Gene Krupa trio.

Personal Impression (and brief notes)

This 12-inch release, one of the earliest 12-inch LPs containing JATP materials, features the Gene Krupa Trio.

Unlike recent jazz trio (piano, bass and drums), this is a trio of tenor sax, piano and drums. Sometimes Gene Krupa's drums sound rather corny, but also very exciting indeed. And we can also enjoy the great tenor blowing by Charlie Ventura - great!

Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)

7 out of 10
