Inside The Groove

A great coupling 10-inch album by The Be-Bop Piano Genius Bud Powell at his best - later issued a part of the better-known LP album “Jazz Giant” (Norgran MG N-1063 / Verve MG V-8153).

Personal Impression (and brief notes)

First each three tracks on both sides featuring Powell=Russell=Roach Trio, (probably) the perfect combination for Powell at his best to present his piano artistry in the trio format. No other drummers but Max Roach can only follow Bud's ultra-fast tempo, while pushing Bud with his ultra-precise brush beats. From a mellodious ballads to mega-fast boppers, these six selections are all the best examples of how be-bop piano trio can interpret and represent.

The rest two tracks - A-4 and B-4 - comes from the other session with Ray Brown and Buddy Rich. Although Buddy is not a bebop drummer in nature, he can successfully pushes Bud along with Ray.

Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)

10 out of 10
