SR-60751: Big Band Bossa Nova / Quincy Jones
Comments- Inside The GrooveOne of the most famous & best-selling Quincy Jones on Mercury ever. Bossa-flavoured big band. Personal Impression (and brief notes)Even if there has been a discussion whether such music on this album is Jazz or not, the music itself is really impressive. We must give a big applause to Mister producer/arranger Quincy Jones, who has far-out ability and sense. On the other hand, this album was maybe a great turning point for him to extend/broaden his workspace, that we know now. Here on this album, Quincy focused on Bossa Nova music, which was becoming popular in the early 1960s with several hits such by Jobim and Gilberto. Quincy extracted the good portion of Bossa Nova flavour and made a successful adaptation to his Big Band Jazz. Every tune on this album is now becoming a classic. We could say Quincy's perfectionism has established sublimation and fusion in very high level - a great mixture of highly-talented big-band Jazz, Bossa Nova music, and popular entertainment. A must-be album for us. Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)10 out of 10 Track Listing
