Comments

with original Mercury inner sleeve.

FR pressing - although this recording was originally made by Swedish Metronome label, the sound itself is very nice to listen to, like other Mercury's early stereo recordings.

Inside The Groove

What more can I say? Harry Arnold + Big Band + Quincy Jones = Jazz! (from original Swedish Metronome recording)

Personal Impression (and brief notes)

Here on this album, we can listen to a good blend of swinging Harry Arnold orchestra (with many talented Swedish jazz players) and young American composer-arranger Quincy Jones. Quincy, who was just 25 years old when this LP was recorded, had learned a lot in music, as a trumpeter, arranger and composer, by interexchanging with many American jazz artists. Later, Quincy himself formed his own big band which was highly acclaimed, but this LP already shows how his compositions and arrangements are very modern and “conservative” (in a good sense of course) by learning and researching past Swing/Bop/West-Coast big bands' sounds.

Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)

9 out of 10
