Inside The Groove
US 1st issue of Johnny Griffin's nice quartet session, original Dutch Philips recording.
Personal Impression (and brief notes)
In the early 1960s Johnny Griffin left the US to tour Europe. Like many other US Jazz musicians who visited to Europe, he stayed in Europe long, played and left a gem of recordings.
This quartet session, together with Francy Boland, Jimmy Woode and Kenny Clarke, features another fine result of Johnny Griffin's European days. His powerful and emotional tenor play does sound so impressive as always, while the rhythm section also plays so nice and modern. Especially I am totally impressed with Kenny Clarke's pulsive drumming.
Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)
9 out of 10
