Inside The Groove

Producer/arranger/keyboardist/songwriter Jerry Peters' only leader album.

Personal Impression (and brief notes)

Jerry Peters is a hard-working producer/arranger/songwriter as well as a keyboard player (both acoustic/electric). This is his only leader album left on Mercury label in 1972.

The album itself shows diversity of sound - from acoustic ballads, soulful arrangements with strings (like Philly Soul), to strong, rhythmic and even funky soul tracks, etc. The music and the entire mood is very attractive and is even beyond the category of Soul, but unfortunately(?!) Jerry Peters' own vocal is not good... His arrangements, songwritings are superb on this album, but his own vocal is the only (and the biggest) drawback. This might be the primary reason Jerry Peters never recorded another leader album(s).

BTW, Rock fans will be interested to find the name of Joseph Porcaro, a father of the Porcaro brothers of the famous studio band TOTO.

Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)

7 out of 10
