Comments

Equivalent release: Mercury SR-60080 (stereo).

Judging from the label, the innersleeve and the matrix number, this copy is NOT one of the earliest copy: maybe this is a bit later issue circa early 1960s, I guess.

with original Mercury inner sleeve.

Inside The Groove

An awesome gospel live recording - “The Gospel Truth”!

Personal Impression (and brief notes)

Sister Rosetta Tharpe (1915 or 1921 - 1973) was one of the most famous gospel singer ever (as well as a talented jazz guitarlist and vocalist). As many may know, her artistic peak might be in her 1940s, but once she sings, we must get astonished and get chilled by her awesome and unique singing. Although I am not a Christian, I can feel even a bit of how her singing are great.

Fortunately, Sister Rosetta Tharpe left several recordings on Mercury label. This live recording album captures her fascinating characteristics. A treasure of talented, improvised, dramatic and embellished performance.

Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)

10 out of 10
