Inside The Groove
A unique clarinet-accordion quartet's 1st album on Mercury, playing famous standard Jazz tunes.
Personal Impression (and brief notes)
DeFranco=Gumina quartet left four LPs on Mercury label, and all albums have very similar sound presentation. Ordinary Jazz fans may not like the contrast of the sounds of modern clarinet and accordion, since it is not the mainstream of what the Jazz was in the 1960s. As for me too, it is difficult to fully appreciate the music presented on this album.
A few exceptions are A-3, B-1 and B-3 - these three tracks are boppish and up-tempo swingers, fully featuring the artistry of DeFranco and Gumina.
Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)
7 out of 10
