MG-36019: Ralph Gari
CommentsThe disc plays so nice although it has scuffs and light scratches. Inside The GrooveA multi player's progressive jazz performance left on EmArcy. Personal Impression (and brief notes)Ralph Gari - I don't know about this player except this album. However, this LP is rather great. Every track has refreshing arrangent. Especially Side-A is full of very modern and progressive chord changes. His performance is basically Parker-ish, but really refreshing. It is really amazing that such ahead-of-time performance (it really sounds like those of 1970s or 1980s) was made in the middle 1950s. At least, it is very interesting to listen to his play from alto sax, clarinet, flute, piccolo to oboe. Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)9 out of 10 Track Listing
Personnel
Personnel/recorded date/master numbers confirmed with the Ruppli's discography.
The Ruppli book doesn't mention about personnels, while the original back cover does... How come? “Recorded at Mercury Sound Studio, NYC” on the Ruppli book, but there was NOT a recording studio named Mercury Sound Studio (actually it was an editing studio in NYC). I believe this album was recorded in Los Angeles or Hollywood (maybe at Capitol Studio?), CA, since Ralph Gari lived and played in California at the time. Furthermore, the photo on the session resembles that of MG-36020 which was recorded in West-Coast.
