Inside The Groove
Nice female singer Morgana King's 1st album on EmArcy (2nd on entire Mercury labels).
Personal Impression (and brief notes)
Morgana King, also famous as an actress, started singings and recordings in the 1950s, although she continued to release as much as 30 LPs in her long career. Her voice's timbre may resemble Patti Page's voice, but Morgana King has more soulful way of expressions, since she was so familiar with the Blues.
This EmArcy LP, a successor of her 1st LP Wing MGW-60007 (maybe not released - soon re-assigned and issued as Mercury MG-20231), tries to expand her fascination. On the previous LP she was accompanied by simply a rhythm section, but on this LP we can enjoy moody strings arranged by Richard Hayman as well as swingy horns/reeds section (especially trombones) and guitars.
Not the top-rated EmArcy vocal album (since other great vocalists such as Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughan, Helen Merrill also recorded on EmArcy), but very enjoyable nice album.
Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)
7 out of 10
