MG C-113: Roy Eldridge Collates

[Front Cover] Label Type : black/silver Mercury trumpeter type A
Matrix Number : SIDE-A MG C113A    F
SIDE-B MG C113B    F

Comments

Great artwork (on the front cover) by David Stone Martin - one of my favourites.

Both the disc and the cover are (luckily) in near-mint condition.

Inside The Groove

A collection of Roy Eldridge's JATP-era recordings produced by Norman Granz.

Personal Impression (and brief notes)

Instead of other Collates series, this album is NOT a collection of Roy Eldridge's previously-released 78rpm/45rpm single tracks, but two different sessions aimed for this LP album.

On Side-B, Roy Eldridge is backed up with George Williams Orchestra with strings arrangements. Still, we can enjoy supreme trumpet play by the virtuoso “Little Jazz”. On the other hand, Side-A focuses on small combo performances by the Roy Eldridge Quintet. As always, literally he swings as if he was just like singing.

Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)

8 out of 10
