Inside The Groove

a compilation of Lester Young's Keynote sessions.

Personal Impression (and brief notes)

Mercury and EmArcy had reissued the Pres' Keynote sessions in various format. This compilation LP, released in the mid-1960s, features almost complete takes of Keynote sessions which Lester Young appeared on (later in the 1980s, “The Complete Keynote Collection” revealed a few more unreleased takes from the sessions).

A-2, A-4, A-6, A-7, B-1, B-3, B-4 were firstly appeared in LP format on Mercury MG-25015.

B-2 was previously available only on Swedish Metronome B517.

All others were previously unreleased at that time.

Anyway, this LP holds one of the greatest plays of Lester Young in his mid-1940s.

Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)

9 out of 10
