MGW-12004 is an original issue of Mercury MG-20208.
Inside The Groove
The famous popular organ player Eddie Layton's very first LP left among all left on Mercury and its subsidiaries.
Personal Impression (and brief notes)
As the famous Space Age Pop Music site refers Eddie Layton's name as “a demonstrator for Hammond organs”, he has been one of the most famous Hammond organ players throughout the U.S. (at least among ordinary people, not among jazz fans). For most people, his name is so famous as the official organist for the New York Yankees since 1967.
He seldom played jazz kinds, but instead played tons of popular tunes as “easy-listening” kinds. His sound is not much spine-chilling or thrilling (like other great black Jazz organ players do). But as a popular player, he tried to pull out every possibility of what the Hammond organ had to have. He also has spread the fascinations of Hammon organ's sound throughout many “ordinary” people.
On this LP, Eddie Layton's first session left on Mercury, he is accompanied with a few musicians (drums, guitar, percussions). With the “Hi-Fi” sound as what the LP title literally says, we can enjoy the essence of Eddie Layton's organ performance. Again, all tracks are not jazzy kind, but very enjoyable I believe.
Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)
