SR-90405: Janos Starker Plays Works by DEBUSSY, BARTÓK and others
Janos Starker, Gyorgy Sebök

[Front Cover] Label Type : Maroon Mercury Stereo Living Presence High Fidelity (“Vendor”)
Matrix Number : SIDE-A SR90405A-RFR-1    P17    RR
SIDE-B SR90405B-RFR-7    I    RR

Comments

Equivalent release: Mercury MG-50405 (mono).

RFR pressing: this is not the earliest RFR-1/1 copy. But it still plays fine. I'd like to listen to the RFR1/1 copy though.

Personal Impression (and brief notes)

The Maestro Janos Starker's first appearance on Mercury label was MG-10146, MG-80004 and MG-50094 (KODALY: Quartet No.1, Op.2) recorded in 1953.

And this LP was Janos Starker's another duo session in 1963. The accompanied piano was played by Gyorgy Sebök, who played most of Starker's duo sessions on this label.

On every track, Starker plays so marvellous - spontanous vibrations between the players, the atmospherere, amazingly speedy cello play, but at the same time courteous and beautiful sound - everything's great.

Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)

10 out of 10
