Comments

This title was originally intended for release as Wing MGW-60009. However, it was cancelled for a certain reason, and re-assigned as EmArcy MG-36080. The matrix imprints on the dead wax may prove the fact.

Inside The Groove

French-born pianist Bernard Peiffer's first US recording.

Personal Impression (and brief notes)

Bernard Peiffer was a French-born pianist living in Philadelphia at the time. His professional debut was back in 1943, then he worked with such European artists as André Ekyan, Django Reinhardt, Hubert Rostaing, Jacques Hélian and Rex Stewart. Then he moved to the US in December 1954.

This LP, Bernard Peiffer's first US recording, consists of two different format. Side-A features piano-guitar-bass trio being backed up with Joe Puma and Oscar Pettiford. On the other hand, Side-B features quartet session consisting of Bernard's regular bassist Chuck Andrus, Joe Puma and Ed Thigpen. Both sides surely captures Bernard's piano artistry which is so unique.

Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)

8 out of 10
