Inside The Groove

Eddie Chamblee's first full-length album as a leader.

Personal Impression (and brief notes)

Every tune is not so long enough to blow and honk hard for Chamblee: this recording was not blowing session by small combo, but by sophisticated septet.

But for Chamblee himself, you can hear his own voice of tenor saxophone as a awesome honker, famous bandman, a great sideman. Listen to his blow and swing on "Flat Beer" and "Chamblee Special", his own writings. Enjoy funny arrangement of "Tea For Two" or "Without A Song". It's all impressive. I like 'em all. However, remember that his best artistry(?) as a super-bad honker can be heard on his Prestige LP “Rockin' Tenor Sax of Eddie Chamblee”.

Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)

7 out of 10
