Inside The Groove
Another collection of Illinois Jacquet's JATP-era recordings produced by Norman Granz.
Personal Impression (and brief notes)
JATP-era was one of Illinois Jacquet's earliest peaks in his long career. This album, a follower of first collates MG C-112, is also a compilation from several 78rpm releases (by Mercury and Clef). Again, this captures his mild and gentle side. As many may know he is not a mere "honker", but also a great balladeer. Even in his mellow plays, we can enjoy his awesome soul.
And what's more, some of these 1951-1952 sessions features Count Basie's fantastic organ to which itself is worth listening.
Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)
9 out of 10
