Inside The Groove
The bold tenor saxophone player Billy Mitchell's first leader album.
Personal Impression (and brief notes)
Billy Mitchell, a seldom-known tenor saxophonist, worked in such bands as Milt Buckner, Woody Herman, Dizzy Gillespie and Count Basie. His tenor sound is so bold and hard-swinging, which surely will entertain us Modern Jazz listeners.
This album (Billy Mitchell's first leader LP) consists of two different sessions. First combo with Sleepy Anderson on organ performs fully in relaxed mood, while the other with Dave Burns on trumpet is a hard-blowing and exiting session. On both sessions, Bobby Hutcherson's vibraphone presents an important mood in these fine tracks.
Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)
9 out of 10
