Mercury Records Collection: MG-20441: No Count Sarah

This title was originally intended for release as EmArcy MG-36152. However, it was cancelled for a certain reason, and re-assigned as Mercury MG-20441 / SR-60116.

Both the disc and outer sleeve are in awesome near-mint condition. Thank you barbcity-san!

Personal Impression (and brief notes)

Too famous album backed up with “No Count” band - actually the same band as Count Basie big-band EXCEPT Count Basie himself is not included here (probably due to a contract matter or something?). The big band really swings with rock-solid rhythms!

Again, Devine Sarah sings, improvises, scats so awesome. All tracks on this album are famous popular ones, but Devine Sarah successfully adds refreshing moods and different nuances to every tune. Really fascinating.

According to the “HI-FInformation” (printed on the back cover) by Hal Mooney, this recording was made at the Fine Sound Studio, New York City. However, as Mr. Tom Fine (son of C.R. Fine and Wilma Cozart Fine) recalls, Fine Sound Studios did not exist in 1958, but Fine Recording.
