SR-60064: Frank D'Rone Sings

[Front Cover] Label Type : black Mercury type C (large oval)
Matrix Number : SIDE-A SR 60064-A-MS1    FF
SIDE-B SR 60064-B-MS1    FF

Comments

Equivalent release: Mercury MG-20418 (mono).

with original Mercury inner sleeve.

Although the label is large oval type (which is the very first variation of black Mercury stereo label), the matrix stamp indicate this copy is a bit late pressing (probably in 1960 or 1961).

Inside The Groove

Chicago-born Jazz vocalist Frank D'Rone's first album on Mercury label.

Personal Impression (and brief notes)

Frank D'Rone, although his name is far from famous in Japan, has been always famous and well known in the United States, at least in his homeland, Chicago. BTW Chicago is a home town for Mercury Records Corporation :)

On this album, Frank D'Rone's first LP on Mercury label, he is accompanied by swingin' small/big combos with very jazzy arrangements. His singing style, which reminds us of Frank Sinatra or Bobby Darin, is so amazing - with his own individual sound. Wide variety of every track is also nice.

By the way, the liner-notes (found on the back cover) was written by Nat King Cole.

Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)

9 out of 10
