Mercury Jazz 89000 シリーズ (10インチ 78rpm / 7インチ 45rpm)

Mercury のシングル盤リリース (78回転および 45回転) のうち 8900番台， 11000番台，そして 89000番台 は「Mercury Jazz Series」(あるいは「Be Bop Series」)と銘打たれ， 主に Norman Granz プロデュースの作品がリリースされました． そのほとんどは後に Mercury の LP (MGC シリーズ) や Clef / Verve の LP で再発されましたが，一部このシングル盤でしか 聴けないものもあります (近年の CD リイシューにはボーナストラックとして 収録されているケースもある様です)． シングル盤のみに収録された別テイクも若干存在します．
リリースの前後関係が非常に複雑なのもこのシリーズの特徴です． ほとんどのタイトルはまず 78回転でリリースされ，後に 45回転でも リリースされたと思われますが，同時リリースのものもあると思われます． また，Norman Granz が Mercury を離れて独自に Clef としてリリースを 開始する前後に相当するため， どのタイトルまでが Mercury レーベルとしてリリースされたのか， この辺りは今後の研究課題となりそうです．
