EmArcy EP 6000 シリーズ (7インチ)

1948年に Columbia が初めてリリースした 10インチ及び 12インチの 33回転 LP と共に，SP の代替メディアとして 1949年に RCA Victor から 発表された 7インチの 45回転 EP． 最終的には LP がアルバム用，EP がシングル盤用と 住み分けがなされましたが，当初は EP もアルバムとしての 扱いを受けていました．
EmArcy レーベル でも 45回転の EP アルバムが各種リリースされています． LP と同様，ハードカバーのジャケットが付属し， あたかも最近人気の「紙ジャケCD」の如き独特の雰囲気を出しています． 片面に 1曲ないし 2曲収録され， 10インチ / 12インチ の LP 1枚につき EP 2〜3枚がリリースされていた様です．
なんといっても最大の魅力はそのジャケットにあり， LP とは別ショットの写真やデザインがふんだんに楽しめます． ただ残念ながら，カッティングレベルが低いせいもあってか， 再生音質は LP に比べるとかなり劣るものがほとんどです．
