Louis Jordan Discography on Mercury

[Portrait of Louis Jordan]

Needless to say, Louis Jordan was one of the biggest stars in the pre-war period, who created one-and-only R&B and Jump music - such music later inspired to create Rock, Soul and Funk music. That's why he definitely was an originator. In the 1940s, he was in his artistic peak - Louis Jordan & his Tympany Five made numbers of hits after hits from Decca label.

In 1956, Louis Jordan moved to Mercury label, and he recorded yet another great LP - with the help of Quincy Jones as an arranger, as well as gorgeous talented back-up members, he finalized a nice album “Somebody Up There Digs Me” (Mercury MG-20242), which features re-recordings of his past hit tracks with new breed. He also recorded another LP on Mercury, which features small combo with organ. There are a few more recordings which were issued only on 45rpm or which was not relesased at the time.

The period Louis Jordan recorded on Mercury: 1956-1958.
