言うまでもなく、Louis Jordan さんは戦前 R&B と Jump ミュージックの 大スターであり、同時に後の Rock や Soul、Funk といったジャンルにも連なる 開祖でもあります。1940年代は Louis Jordan & his Tympany Five の 独壇場で、Decca レーベルから次々とヒット曲を量産してゆきました。
そんな Louis Jordan さんが 1956年に Mercury と契約。 Quincy Jones アレンジの元、 後期の代表作というべき “Somebody Up There Digs Me” (Mercury MG-20242) を生み出します。錚々たるメンバーで構成されるビッグコンボをバックに、 過去のヒット曲を新鮮なアレンジで再演する好録音です。 LP はもう一枚、オルガン入りのスモールコンボでの録音がリリースされました。 その他にも、シングル盤のみリリースの音源、未発表音源などが残されています。
