AppleScript hides its code?

私自身はマカーでもないし (ハードウェアの Mac には長年お世話になってはいますが)、こういう話 (の切り口) にもあまり興味はありませんが、某所でぶうぶうゆうてはるようなので、一応。

I am not a Mac enthusiast at all (although I've been using Mac hardwares for over 15 years), and I am not interested in such kind of discussion (and such perspective). But I saw certain people complained about this article - that's why here I am writing something (or nothing?).

この点について、Lessigは、HTMLの爆発的な増加とApple ComputerのつくったAppleScriptとの差について、Macromediaはもっと勉強すべきだと述べた。同氏によると、HTMLではウェブ制作者同士が互いに相手のつくったもの「盗み」とり、それに改良を加えることが可能だったことから、制作者の巨大なコミュニティが生まれたのに対して、 AppleScriptはコードが非公開であるため、そうならなかったという。

Quoted from the article “Lessig preaches openness to Flash faithful” :

On that note, Lessig said Macromedia should study the explosive growth of HTML, which created a vast community of Web developers by allowing them to "steal" from one another and expand on each other's work, as compared with the less spectacular growth of Apple Computer's AppleScript scripting language, which hides its code.

多分みんながブツブツゆうてはるのは、AppleScript が普及しなかったのは、Apple の管理下にあったからというよりは、MacOS でしか使えないものだったからという点、巷に出回っている AppleScript で書かれたスクリプトの中には、別にコードを隠したりはしておらずスクリプトを見ることは出来るものも少なからずあるという点 (隠す仕組みはあるわけですが)、AppleScript と HTML はそもそも目的が異なり、同列に比較しても意味がないという点、などでしょうか。

Main standpoints some people complain about may include: the reason AppleScript could not gain much growth was that it could be used only on MacOS, not that AppleScript was under the Apple's proprietary control; although there is a way to hide scripts, many AppleScript scripts available on the web are “scriptable” (i.e. the script codes can be viewed by anybody); AppleScript and HTML have different purposes in essence, and it is meaningless to compare each other.

Well, anyway, it makes no difference to me at all.
