Inside The Groove

Mulligan's comfortable tunes, some of which were recorded on the same session as the famous masterpiece album “Night Lights”.

Personal Impression (and brief notes)

Most of the tunes are from the same sessions as the famous album “Night Light” (Philips PHM 200-108 / PHS 600-108), and this LP is also excellent. It's full of beautiful, lazy and moody plays. Gerry Mulligan, who prefered pianoless combo in his many recordings, plays piano by himself in this recording. It's another interesting point.

Tracks from 1963 sessions (A-1, A-4, B-1, B-4) are performed by the Sextet featuring Art Farmer and Jim Hall, while those of 1964 sessions (A-2, A-3, B-2, B-3) by the Quartet.

Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)

8 out of 10
