Comments
This is the last EmArcy LP which came with blue-back cover.
Some of the tunes are also available on EP-1-6146.
Inside The Groove
Gerry Mulligan's first leader album on EmArcy/Mercury label - one of his EmArcy/Mercury trilogy.
Personal Impression (and brief notes)
Gerry Mulligan, who was definitely one of the most important key players in the late 1940s-1960s jazz scene, moved to EmArcy label in 1955. Gerry Mulligan's sextet recorded a number of tunes during September 1955 - September 1956. Some of them are included on this album, EmArcy MG-36101 and Mercury MG-20453. Later in the 1980s, Nippon Phonogram released four LPs (195J-33 thru 195J-36) which includes all materials from the sessions.
Anyway, this album itself. Like heard on other two LPs, they are an amazing ensemble, with no piano accompanied, magically intercorporates each other. Very swingy but full of “modern” taste. Yes, a Mulligan's sound. A nice album.
Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)
10 out of 10
