Super-bad tenor sax battle between two famous Mercury honkers.

Personal Impression (and brief notes)

Sil Austin and Red Prysock - both left lots of fine R&B honking tenor sax sounds on Mercury label. Although Sil Austin later switched his sound to moody mellow music, he was a great honker. Red Prysock is one of the greatest honkers with no doubts. BTW both Sil and Red were in the Tiny Bradshaw's band (Red played from 1947 to 1953, while Sil from 1953 to 1955).

On this album, Sil and Red dig three “tenor battles” - A-1 and B-1 are great jam tracks featuring full of their honking and growling tenor sound. On the other hand, A-2 mainly features Kenny Burrell's guitar, as well as Sil and Red's saxes.

A great “borderline between R&B and Jazz” album, which entertains us with speedy, powerful, pushing, rushing, wild tenor sounds.
