MGW-12007: Fruit Boots / Red Prysock
CommentsMGW-12007 is an original issue of Mercury MG-20211. A-1 and A-6 are also available on Wing W90070x45. Inside The GrooveSuper-bad honker Red Prysock's second leader album on Mercury. Personal Impression (and brief notes)Red Prysock. One of the most famous honkers. He was a member of Cootie Williams' band, a member of a horn section of Tiny Grimes Rocking Highlanders, and a player of a Tiny Bradshaw's organization. His first LP “Rock 'N Roll” (MG-20088), a collection of his 1954-1955 tracks on Mercury, was awesome. A masterpiece by the super-bad honker. Then this second album was recorded in early 1956. Luckily, Side-B's session (Feb. 23) has the same tension and blowin' saxes as his 1st LP. Hot rhythm section and horn riffs are also great. On the other hand, Side-A (Feb. 28) sounds nearly the same as what we can hear on his third LP (MG-20307): Red Prysock himself honks so nice, but the backing rhythm section sounds rather steady and less thrilling in my humble ears. Anyway, this LP is definitely another fine R&B honking album. Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)9 out of 10 Track Listing
