Personal Impression (and brief notes)

After he switched the label to Mercury in middle 1960s, he left many fine albums. Of course the greatest one would be his Philly-Soul era (SR-61198 “Ice Man Cometh”), but this album, recorded live, presents another fine aspects of how Jerry Butler can sing a great Soul ballards. Actually he had been singing for long years: after he quit Impressions, he had left many Soul albums in various labels. This early Mercury album would also be one of his finest LP.

As the track listing shows, he sings famous ballards in his own way ... not too mellow but soulfully. His biggest hit (in his Impressions era) “For Your Precious Love” as well as gospel flavoured “Amen” is very good.
