Inside The Groove
Coleman Hawkins' awesome leader sessions in 1944, from original Keynote recordings.
Personal Impression (and brief notes)
Keynote label had released tons of fine jazz recordings from Dixieland style, pre-bop mainstream jazz to post-bop progressive style and many more. Definitely one of the most important jazz labels in the middle 1940s.
This EmArcy 10-inch LP contains Coleman Hawkins' sessions, all recorded in 1944. Side-A features Coleman Hawkins' first Keynote session, with such jazz greats as Teddy Wilson and Roy Eldridge. Roy, Teddy and “The Hawk” presents awesome performances here. A great mainstream session indeed. B-3 and B-4 are from the “Coleman Hawkins' All American Four” session - Teddy and the Hawk plays so beautiful and aggressive improvisations. The last session, B-1 and B-2, also proves that the Hawk and Teddy surely were in their best condition.
Superb mainstream performances in the middle 1940s.
Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)
