Equivalent release: Limelight LS-86038 (stereo).

Inside The Groove

Probably Art Blakey's most unusual title among his entire career - Blakey plays hip hits of the 1960s in eight beats.

Personal Impression (and brief notes)

All tracks except B-5 are TV themes, Rock/Popular hit tunes, Broadway musical songs - Art Blakey's attempt to dig eight-beat sounds. However, Art Blakey himself is essentially Be-Bop/Modern Jazz drummer, and he is actually struggling with these tunes on the album. Fans of Grant Green would be delighted to see his name on this album, but unfortunately his groovy guitar is seldomly featured here.

On the other hand, B-5 “Slowly But Surely” is an outtake from “Soulfinger” (LM-82018 / LS-86018) session.

Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)

6 out of 10
