Inside The Groove

Clark Terry's first leader sessions, accompanied by many famous pals.

Personal Impression (and brief notes)

Clark Terry, one of the unique trumpeter and fluegelhorn player, started his career at Count Basie orchestra and Duke Ellington orchestra. Then in the middle 1950s, he finally had a chance to record his own album. Later he preferred to play fluegelhorn, but on this album he plays trumpet. In any way, his sound is so brilliant and “smooth” - beautiful sound that we can distinguish his play among others.

This album itself a very nice bop album. Art Blakey and Horace Silver, rarely seen on Mercury/EmArcy titles, pushes so hard and pulsive. Jimmy Cleveland, who will record his own leader album within a year, also plays nice.

A very impressive hard-bop album.

Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)
