This title was originally intended for release as EmArcy MG-36161. However, it was cancelled for a certain reason, and re-assigned as Mercury MG-20449 / SR-60134.
Edited versions of A-1 and A2 can be heard on Mercury 71712 45rpm.
A few years later, this album was reissued as Limelight LM-82009 (mono) / LS-86009 (stereo).
There are so many variations found on this album, I've been collecting so many copies to find out the facts. Please take a look at my article about the mysteries of many variations on this LP.
Inside The Groove
Maybe the most famous Cannonball's albums in his EmArcy/Mercury era, with Miles Davis' bandmates.
Personal Impression (and brief notes)
This famous record is definitely ranked as one of the classic jazz albums.
Everybody says Julian "Cannonball" Adderley has two sides: a awesome Parker-child altosaxophonist, and a funky funky dad. This album holds the former side.
You may notice that all players here were members of Miles Davis group at that time. Their musical intercomunication shown on the record is excellent. Cannonball plays very smooth and fruitful melodies on bop idiom, while Coltrane, Kelly, Chambers and Cobb digs so hard as always. Great.
Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)
10 out of 10
