Inside The Groove

Oscar Peterson's first quartet session on Mercury/Clef label.

Personal Impression (and brief notes)

Oscar Peterson made many studio recordings under the supervision of Norman Granz in the early 1950s. His leader sessions included duo, trio and quartet. This album features his first quartet session. This February 1952 session resulted in eight tracks, and two of them are included on this album (others were later included on Clef MG C-168 and Clef MG C-688).

On both tracks, all four members enjoy this studio jam, and plays very swingy and smooth improvisations which are definitely their masterpieces.

Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)

8 out of 10
