Comments

with original Mercury inner sleeve.

Monaural issue of this SR-60035 is MG-20294, but both are differnt edits each other (contains different tunes from differnt sessions). Furthermore, later edition of MG-20294 (mono) is the same as SR-60035 (stereo).

Although this disc is NOT a RCA pressing, the quality and the sound is awesome.

Inside The Groove

Mister Dance Band's nice danceable ensemble.

Personal Impression (and brief notes)

Maybe this is the first “STEREO” sessions for Marterie. The band ensemble is very swingy, agressive, and powerful. This album contains materials recorded in 1956 or 1958. The only disappointment is the arrangements of 1958 tunes: compared with his previous albums full of Swing Big-Band taste, all are full of sudden trumpet riff hitters out of a sweet ensemble (it's very impressive in another sense, though).

At least I love MG-20294 much better :(

Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)

6 out of 10

Personnel

Personnel/recorded date/master numbers confirmed with the Ruppli's discography.
(“The Mercury Labels - A Discography” by Ruppli and Novitsky, Greenwood Press, 1993)

Ruppli's book says 14536 (mono) = PB31 (stereo), but upon actual listening, they are different mixes each other (at least overdubbed whistles are completely different).
Furthermore, 14541 (mono) and PB36 (stereo) are completely different takes each other, while Ruppli didn't mention about it.
