MG-36005: Clifford Brown With Strings
CommentsJul. 12, 2004: replaced with cleaner-sounding copy (same matrix information) - This copy has “FREE COPY” stamp on the Side-B's label. Luckily, this copy sounds far better than my previous copy (the old copy had three scratches on A-3 and A-4 that did sound but didn't skip). My previous copy, althouth had less scuffs than the newly-acquired one, sounded inferior (rather distorted and warped in loud passages) probably because it was pressed from nearly-worn-out stamper. The cover is exceptionally in near-mint condition, All tunes also available on EP-1-6100, EP-1-6101 and EP-1-6102. Inside The GrooveA very famous and one of the greatest albums by Clifford Brown, accompanied with the strings section conducted by Neal Hefti. Personal Impression (and brief notes)To tell the truth, I didn't come to like this album when I firstly listened to the album. A brilliant trumpet backed up with strings - I just thought it was no thrilling. Of course I knew this very famous album and I have listened to this so many times ever since. But now I definitely can say I was definitely wrong. When I heard the CD copy of this album some time, suddenly I came to understand the music - I was astonished by Clifford Brown's great play. He mostly plays every tunes without improvisations - just basic melodies - but it's nothing but beautiful and awesome. Although this album may not be a pure Jazz kind, I love Clifford Brown's brilliant play from the bottom of his heart. Strings section is arranged in a modest way, that doesn't interfere Brownie but does make him stand out. One of his masterpieces. Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)10000 (or even more) out of 10 Track Listing
