MG-36037: Study In Brown / Clifford Brown & Max Roach Quintet
CommentsSome of the tunes are also available on EP-1-6136. Side-A's matrix is “YMG” prefix with “MF1” and “A2” - pressed with the 2nd stamper from the 1st mother from the 1st lacquer. However, another copy of mine (with no silver rim) has MF1 and A1 stamps on Side-A's dead wax area. If the copies with the silver rim on the label precede the ones without silver rim, it is highly probable that the second-made stamper (A2) was used prior to the first-made stamper (A1) by a certain reason. BTW I have seen silver-ring copies with A1 stamper. Side-B is from the first stamper (A1) from second lacquer (MF2), but I haven't seen discs with “YMG” and “MF1” stampers on the B-side yet - Please let me know if you have such copies (in order to collect information then determine the all-known variations ever pressed and issued). Later in the early 1960s, MG-36037 was released with blue cover instead of brown cover. Inside The Groove...what should I add any more words for this awesome album? Personal Impression (and brief notes)Maybe one of the most famous EmArcy albums, even among the Brown-Roach albums. Or we should say all Brown-Roach albums are exceptionally awesome. We can't help get knocked out by Brown's brilliant trumpet play, dramatically improvised phrases, Roach's speedy and pushing drums, etc. etc... “awesome” the only word I can say in conclusion. A true masterpiece and a sacred album. Anyway, as many people have said, every note Clifford Brown has left us is precious. All of us should go further - get Complete EmArcy Recordings :) Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)10000 (or even more) out of 10 Track Listing
